The cutting cycle of the electric cutter head is fully automated through the use of a Programmable logic Controller (PLC).  The machine operator has the ability to manually adjust the mining operation through the PLC as coal seams vary in height. This proven technology allows the cutter head to accurately follow the coal seam and efficiently produce a cleaner product.

Terex SHM miners, which features penetration capabilities up to 1,000 feet (304.6 m) and mining potential on a seam dip up to 8 degrees, can recover up to 70 percent of in place coal.  The efficiency of the Terex SHM system is spectacular.  Three to four man crews can produce 40,000 to 120,000 tons (36,287 to 108,861 metric tons) of clean coal per month.
